A little about myself

I started my career in sales back in the 90’s selling office equipment to small businesses. At the ripe age of 21, I was earning more than most of my friend’s fathers. 

In 1993, I was hired as a financial advisor by one of Canada’s largest investment banks. I used the skills I’d acquired selling office equipment to increase my income even further. I was the firm’s youngest hire to date, and one of the top producers in my class. 

In 2001, I started my first technology company, (still in business today) and prior to selling it in 2008, we were recognized as one of Canada’s PROFIT 100 fastest growing private companies in the country for two years in a row. 

After selling Dyrand in 2008, I got hooked on technology & the Internet and that has been my focus ever since. 

I’ve now had over two decades experience on desktop, web, and SaaS software; primarily in the areas of marketing and sales. 

If there is a way to leverage technology to increase the ROI from marketing or sales, I’ll find it. 

The only thing I love more than business & technology is my family. I’ve been married to my best friend since 2013 and she and I are parents to a daughter named Kiana. 

Flowster is now at a point where I have some free time, so I’m looking for new short term projects that are both challenging and rewarding.

Flowster – Founder & CEO

2018 – present

An intuitive SaaS app for managing processes and workflows. Useful for any industry. Has a marketplace where anyone can sell their custom-made playbooks.

I got the idea for Flowster after giving a speech on growth hacking to an audience of 500 founders. 

Bright Ideas Media – Founder & CEO

2010 – present is a media company that is an extension of my personal brand. From 2010 to 2021, I published over 600 podcast interviews with founders. Today, most of the content I product is on my personal YouTube channel.

Bright Ideas has been a side project (albeit a profitable one) for most of the time it has existed.

TLK Sourcing – Founder & CEO

2016 – 2022

TLK Sourcing is an marketing & logistics company that partnered with DTC brands to handle sales of their products on Amazon.

TLK ranked #254 and #622 on the Inc 5000 in 2019 and 2020; largely due to my obsession with creating SOPs and then hiring a remote team to do all the work at a lower costs than on-shore workers.

Groove Digital Marketing – Founder & CEO

2011 – 2016

Groove Digital Marketing was a B2B content marketing and lead generation agency. Our most successful client was a 2nd generation family owned B2B technology company that needed to reinvent the way they generated leads and closed new business and after working with us for two years, their online marketing and lead generation results were so successful that they actually had to temporarily pause their marketing because they couldn’t keep up with all the new opportunities that our marketing activities generated.

Groove came to be largely as a result of the popularity of requests for help from the audience of my Bright Ideas podcast.

Dyrand Systems – Founder & CEO

2001 to 2008

Dyrand was my first startup and it was definitely my hands on MBA. We were a very early pioneer in the IT managed services industry. 

Dyrand was twice ranked as one of Canada’s PROFIT 100 fastest growing private companies before I sold it in 2008.

Dundee Wealth – Regional Vice President

1998 to 2000

As Regional VP, I was responsible for business development in British Columbia. Competition among mutual fund companies was fierce and I implemented creative marketing strategies to get our foot in the door with new organizations that could distribute our products to their clients.

Private Client Asset Manager – Merrill Lynch

1995 to 1998

I was a part of a team of private wealth managers that managed a book of $300m on behalf of private individuals.
